Rules of Engagement
Black Talon operates under strict Rules of Engagement to preserve mission integrity, ensure tactical realism, and maintain accountability in all actions. These rules apply during all operations unless explicitly adjusted by the commanding officer in the mission briefing.
1. Engagement Authority
You are not authorized to open fire unless:
You have positive identification (PID) of a hostile threat.
You or your unit are taking effective fire.
You are ordered to engage by your squad leader or commanding officer.
Trigger discipline is mandatory. Keep weapons on safe until engagement is necessary.
2. Target Identification (PID)
Confirm that a target is armed and demonstrates hostile intent before engaging.
Avoid shooting non-combatants or surrendering enemies.
In low-visibility scenarios, use caution—if unsure, hold fire and report.
3. Civilian Presence
Civilians are never to be engaged unless directly threatening friendly forces.
Maintain awareness of civilian areas and minimize collateral damage.
Accidental civilian casualties must be reported immediately through the chain of command.
4. Surrendered or Incapacitated Enemies
Do not engage enemies who have clearly surrendered or are incapacitated.
Secure and report prisoners of war (POWs) as per mission objectives.
Killing of non-threatening or unarmed individuals will result in immediate disciplinary action.
5. Escalation of Force
Follow this progression before using lethal force when possible:
Presence – Make your presence known.
Verbal Warning – Issue a clear warning if able.
Non-Lethal Deterrence – Flashbangs, warning shots if authorized.
Lethal Force – Authorized only if a direct threat is presented.
6. Vehicle Engagement
Do not engage vehicles unless:
They are confirmed hostile or engaging friendly forces.
You are ordered to disable or destroy them.
They are breaching security perimeters and present an immediate threat.
7. Weapons Control Status (WCS)
Weapons Hold: Do not fire unless fired upon or directly threatened.
Weapons Tight: Fire only at confirmed hostile targets.
Weapons Free: Fire at any targets identified as hostile without additional clearance.
The current WCS will always be stated during the mission briefing. If it changes mid-operation, command will relay the update.
Final Note: These rules exist to maintain professionalism and uphold the values of Black Talon. Violations will not only compromise the mission but also your standing within the unit. Know the ROE. Follow the ROE.
